Yan Junling was born on April 12, 1899, in Nanjing, China. He was a member of the revolutionary military and later became a leading politician. In 1945, he led the Chinese forces to liberate Shanghai from Japanese occupation. His bravery and leadership earned him the title of "The Hero of Shanghai".

In 1946, during the war of resistance against Japan, Yan Junling joined the Red Army and fought alongside the soldiers under General Chiang Kai-shek. After the war, he returned to Nanjing and became a member of the Communist Party.

In 1975, Yan Junling was awarded the Medal of Merit for his outstanding contributions to the country's development. He died on September 10, 1978, at the age of 68.
